Daredevil: Born Again vs Season 3
The revival of the tv series Daredevil has come with a fair share of confusion within the MCU. When the Netflix shows initially premiered it wasn’t made clear whether they were officially part of the MCU or some sort of offshoot. Comments made by Kevin Feige and Jeph Loeb also didn’t help clarify and there was also Agents of Shield doing its own connected but not connected content. Now that the Netflix characters are being incorporated it has been confirmed those shows are officially part of the MCU. While this does have a few issues as far as characters being in a series and cast differently in an upcoming movie (Mahershala Ali in Luke Cage and upcoming Blade), most events that occurred seemingly fit within the narrative. At the very least, the Netflix shows did acknowledge the Battle of NY happened even if not by name. Due to this, a lot of people had considered a few if not all of the Netflix shows canon long before Marvel confirmed it. The ones that didn’t will cite how maybe it’s a branch timeline to a similar universe with slight differences, such as violence being more on display and characters having sex. But these tonal differences occur the same in the comics which is all set in the same continuous universe as well. It’s the same as how Batman is dark and gritty while Superman is colorful and uplifting, just seeing the same world from different perspectives. Even though the Netflix shows are now canon, Marvel is still going to Marvel and make whatever retcons and alterations are needed to make the current stories work despite what has happened previously. I just wouldn’t expect seeing the Born Again storyline as the title suggests. That was essentially Season 3 of Daredevil anyhow. But with the recent additions of Elden Hensen and Debra Ann Woll to the cast, I would expect an end to Karen Page’s story. Since it’s the main thing that didn’t happen in the last season of Daredevil, I could see something similar kickstarting Matt’s role in what appears to be the Devil’s Reign adaptation we are getting as hinted at in Echo.
